Do you also like to travel around the city and are looking for inspiration for your next trip? Then consider Lisbon, the beautiful capital of Portugal, which has something to offer everyone. We’re happy to share with you 5 reasons why you should visit Lisbon!

1) Every Street Has Something Beautiful

No matter if you turn left or right, you will undoubtedly see something beautiful in every street, especially in the historic center, but also in the neighborhoods around it. One day you’ll be surprised by a beautiful castle, and the next time, the idyllic narrow streets will take you up or down the city with the necessary steepness. Once you get to any height, the view is breathtaking. Be sure to visit Castelo de São Jorge, located on Lisbon’s highest hill.

You won’t want to miss the bridge called Ponte 25 de Abril, on the other side of which, of course, is the Cristo Rei statue. Or take a stroll around the large Praça do Comércio square. If you walk from here towards the shopping streets, you are likely to suddenly see a 45-meter high elevator in one of the side streets. This is the Elevador de Santa Justa. In the Alfama district you will also find Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa or Igreja de Santa Maria Maior).

2) Enjoy an Authentic Delicacy in Belém

Throughout Portugal, you can find them in almost every bakery, café, or market. However, the famous Pasteis de Belém or Pastel de Nata (as the name suggests) comes from Belém, a suburb of Lisbon! Just 15 minutes by bus, train or tram from Lisbon and you’re there. Head here to the restaurant of the same name,’ Pastéis de Belém ‘, for a taste of the only Portuguese delicacy. Prepare yourself for a delicious cream cake with cinnamon and icing sugar, and while you’re in Belém, take a walk along the water where you’ll find the Torre de Belém and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

3) Hop on An Old-Fashioned Tram and Head Into the Centre

You can’t visit Lisbon without seeing one of the old trams running through the center. It’s even more fun to take a ride on one. Choose tram 28 and stay seated from start to finish. This tram line is often bustling, but you can enjoy a unique sightseeing experience if you can get a seat. Another advantage is that you don’t have to navigate the steep streets alone and get off at Castelo de São Jorge. Did we mention that almost every house has a cheerful color or pattern of tiles?

4) The Combination of Sun, Water, and Culture

In Lisbon, you’ll find almost everything your heart desires. The city sits on the Tagus River, has (mostly) beautiful sunshine, and a lot of charm, so wandering the narrow streets won’t get old anytime soon. In short, there’s something for everyone, and you can easily spend a few days here. Lisbon is less suitable for a beach holiday. There are hardly any beaches next to the city, but if you head across the Tagus River to the Costa da Caparica, which is several kilometers long, you’ll find it. You can also lead to Cascais, a town 35 km west of Lisbon. It’s easy to get there by train.

5) Great for Fishing Enthusiasts

Do you like fishing? Yes? Then you are also in the right place in Lisbon. You’ll find plenty of fish dishes on almost every menu, but those who prefer meat will also find something to their liking. Visit the Time-Out Mercado da Ribeira, an upmarket market where you can choose delicious food from dozens of suppliers and eat together in the middle of the hall. These are often small portions so that you can sample several things at once!
